Announcement : ISO 9001:2015 Certification and ISO 17025:2005 Accreditation

We are proud to announce that upon completion of an extensive quality system audit, MIMOS Semiconductor (M) Sdn Bhd has been awarded ISO 9001:2015 Certification and ISO 17025:2005 Accreditation.

This globally recognized certification of quality management system standards is in full support with MSSB commitment to creating and maintaining quality processes that ensure consistency, visibility, and accountability across the business operations.

Mimos Semiconductor scores breakthrough in graphene wafer production

KUALA LUMPUR: Mimos Bhd’s subsidiary, Mimos Semiconductor (M) Sdn Bhd (MSSB), has scored a breakthrough in the production of graphene wafer for advanced electronics applications.

In a statement on Wednesday, MSSB said the discovery would strengthen the local electrical and electronics (E & E) industry’s capability in moving up the value chain, with high value-added electronics and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

MSSB general manager/Mimos vice-president for electrical and electronics sector, Wan Azli Wan Ismail, said aside from its relatively low cost, the method used for the production resulted in high-purity graphene films (layers) to ensure high-quality resulting materials.

“This will be highly advantageous in the production of next-generation semiconductors, photodetectors, energy devices, flexible electronics and wearable nanosensors and devices.

Graphene breakthrough in Malaysia will boost E&E industry, MIMOS says

Malaysia’s national research agency MIMOS’ semiconductor subsidiary has announced a breakthrough in graphene wafer production.

Wan Azli Wan Ismail, who is general manager of MIMOS Semiconductor (MSSB), said that the breakthrough will boost the local electrical and electronics (E&E) sector by enhancing high value-added electronics applications.

The discovery is expected to help move the local E&E industry up the value chain with high value-added electronics and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, said Wan Azli, who is also MIMOS’ vice president for E&E sector.

“Our graphene wafer was achieved when near defect-free monolayer graphene was successfully synthesised on 8-inch wafer using chemical vapour deposition (CVD) technology,” he said.

“Besides its relatively lower cost, this method produces high-purity graphene films (layers) to ensure high-quality resulting materials,” Wan Azli explained.

What this breakthrough means

Wan Azli said this “enabling technology would be highly advantageous in the production of next-generation semiconductors, photodetectors, energy devices, flexible electronics and wearable nanosensors and devices.”

“This breakthrough makes MSSB the first and only producer of 8-inch graphene wafer in Malaysia,” he said.

What does this mean to local industry? Wan Azli said: “We welcome local E&E players, particularly companies looking to venture into high value-added electronics and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, to leverage on this exciting development. Graphene wafer would make local players more competitive in pursuing new markets.” (See MIMOS engages industry to boost Malaysia’s digital manufacturing capabilities)

MSSB’s role is to develop local capabilities to support Malaysian E&E industry to move up the value chain, he said.

Its Advanced Shared Facilities in Bukit Jalil provides an end-to-end semiconductor resources, research, development services, as well as business consultancy and product commercialisation.  This initiative is part of the Malaysian Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) under the Electrical and Electronics National Key Economic Area (E&E NKEA).

E & E Industry Players Urged To Leverage On MIMOS-NCIA ACDC

BUKIT JALIL, July 18 (Bernama) — Electrical and electronics (E&E) industry players should take advantage of the MIMOS-Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) Advanced Competency Development Centre (MIMOS-NCIA ACDC) to create a world-class skilled workforce for the Industry 4.0 revolution.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said utilisation of existing technology, was vital to the E&E sector’s growth.

He noted that the sector was one of the key drivers for industrial growth in Malaysia, with exports valued around RM288 billion, and equivalent to 36.7 per cent of the nation’s total exports in 2016.

Tangau said technological advancements and innovation should be accelerated and optimised for the manufacturing sector to move up the value chain.

“I hope that the MIMOS-NCIA ACDC would become an enabler and facilitator in boosting the E&E sector’s efficiency in the new economic landscape.

“The centre is expected to produce 2,000 E&E professionals within five years, turning Malaysia into a regional manufacturing hub, and this will serve as a catalyst for the sector’s transformation,” he added.

His speech was read by his deputy, Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah during the launch of the centre here, today.

Located at the Technology Park Malaysia, the MIMOS-NCIA ACDC is the result of a collaboration between MIMOS and NCIA, towards offering world-class high-tech industry training facilities.

The launch also saw the exchange of a memorandum of understanding and strategic partnership agreement between MIMOS and SIRIM Bhd, the Malaysian National Innovation Agency, University of Malaya and several private companies.
